Peter has 36 years of leadership experience across five schools, including eight years as a teaching principal in a rural primary and sixteen years as principal of a large urban primary. Having retired in August 2025, he brings valuable insights into current challenges and opportunities for school leaders. 

During his career he has had opportunities to experience a wide range of schools through his work as an Associate Assessor with the Education and Training Inspectorate and Stranmillis University College. 

He was first introduced to coaching on cohort one of the Education Authority’s programme for school principals which transformed and inspired his practice. Subsequently, he has used coaching strategies with staff and colleagues and recently completed the ‘School Leader as Coach’ programme with his Senior Leadership Team.  When he qualified as an Executive Coach, he was employed as an Associate by the Education Authority to facilitate ‘School Leader as Coach’ courses. 

Peter is passionate about supporting and enabling leaders to realise their full potential, fostering environments where both staff and pupils thrive. His commitment lies in empowering others to flourish by walking alongside them as they lead in an ever-changing landscape. He strives to listen with empathy and integrity to bring clarity to the complex issues facing school leaders.
