International Stress Awareness Week (3-7 Nov) and Stress Awareness Day (which is held on Wednesday 5 November at the centre of the week) aims to raise the profile of stress awareness and stress prevention, and promote the importance of wellbeing for individuals and organisations.
‘Stress can be defined as a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation. Stress is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives. Everyone experiences stress to some degree. The way we respond to stress, however, makes a big difference to our overall wellbeing.’ (World Health Organisation)
Feeling the pressure?
Stress is something we all experience but when it starts to affect your mood, sleep, or performance, it’s time to take notice. At Lena, we’re here to help you recognise the signs and take meaningful steps toward feeling better.
Recognising the signs of stress
Stress isn’t always obvious, often it slowly builds. Here are some common symptoms to watch out for:
Physical
Headaches, fatigue, muscle tension, or trouble sleeping
Emotional
Feeling overwhelmed, irritable, anxious, or low
Behavioural
Withdrawing from others, procrastinating, or changes in appetite
Cognitive
Difficulty concentrating, racing thoughts, or forgetfulness
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone – and you don’t have to manage it alone.
Ways you can manage or minimise stress
Stress can be managed with small, consistent actions.
Take breaks: Step away from your desk, stretch, or go for a short walk.
Talk it out: Share how you’re feeling with someone you trust.
Prioritise sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours to help your body and mind recover.
Practice mindfulness: Even 5 minutes of deep breathing can reset your nervous system.
Set boundaries: Learn to say no and protect your time.
