The festive season is here and we’re keen to highlight some wellbeing tips for now and the New Year. Head into 2025 in the best possible frame of mind.
Switch off
Technology allows us to be constantly connected to colleagues, family and friends. That is often a good thing but it can also lead to unsociable working practices, as well as unwelcome habits. Switch off and embrace some time for yourself. Unplug your computer and hide the work phone. If you are doing your job from home, where boundaries can easily become blurred, make a plan to step away from all things related to work. The Inspire Support Hub offers great advice on remote working, work and parenting and maintaining a work-life balance. Even when your role is not computer based, spending lots of your free time on digital devices can negatively affect your relationships, mental health and physical wellbeing. Over the holiday period, and then into 2025, set yourself a daily tech time-out. That way, you’re more likely to be present for yourself and those around you.
Sleep well
Sleep is one of the most important elements of day-to-day happiness, playing a key role in our physical and emotional wellbeing, Our bodies and brains rest when we sleep; they recuperate and recharge. Healthy bedtime routines, which allow us at least eight hours of rest per night, boost focus and concentration, mood and the immune system. When these things are in well looked after, we are more able to deal with life’s challenges.
Sleep hygiene is crucial to our mental health. The Inspire Support Hub’s mood and sleep tracker is an excellent starting point. It helps us measure how we’re feeling and how we’re sleeping – two things that are intrinsically linked.
Prioritise your health
Maintaining a balanced diet and getting active can help clear your mind and reduce stress. Wrap up warm, get out into the world and fill your lungs with fresh air. If exercise isn’t your thing, there are lots of emotional and physical benefits to be found in other activities: volunteering, mindfulness, arts and crafts, reading and journalling. Make these things part of your dedicated self-care routine. The Inspire Support Hub is home to a variety of relevant materials. From advice on healthy habits to guidelines around accessible exercise, the Hub is full of excellent content.
